I am going to stress on this because it is one of the top 10 mistakes customers make before they start criticizing the copier. You don't have to be an expert to replace the toner bottle but you have to be careful. You also have to be careful! Funny, you are probably thinking. I am not trying to be.
Replacing the toner bottle is easy and does not cause any headaches when done as follows:
If the toner is really low, and you hear the machine running like it is warming up, wait until it is finished before you open the cover to replace the bottle. Why? Because when you hear that 'warm up' sound, and you know the copier is already warmed up, it usually means that the bottle is spinning and the copier is trying to replenish the Developing Unit (the gadget inside that makes the magic copies) Unless you have these old machines where the toner is already upside down. (Hope I don't have to vacuum your mess!)
Shake the bottle (before you open it)
If there is a piece of plastic covering the hole on the bottle where the toner comes out, please remove it first. I've had to replace motors and hopers because of this. If you have to unscrew the top of the bottle, please make sure the seal is removed.
Now is a good time to grab your manual if you have never done this before. Follow the proper procedures on inserting the bottle inside the toner hopper.
If the copier is idle (not cycling), opens the cover, pull out the old toner bottle and replace it with the new one. If you have to fight the bottle to get it out, then don't. The bottle might not be in home position. Close the cover, let the copier cycle again until it stops, then try it again.
Check the bottle alignment and make sure it is inserted properly, and all the way in - very important - then close the cover.
Do not twist and turn the bottle unless the copier manual specifies. If you have a Minolta CS Pro copier, or a Minolta Digital, there is absolutely no twisting and turning necessary.
If the copier cycles and you don't hear any "Crack!" noise, if you open the front cover later and you don't see toner spilled all over the place, tap yourself in the back, you did it!
