Copier Repair Tips > Copier Troubleshooting and Repair Tips > Copy Quality problems Q- my copier is printing a black line when I use the document feeder.
A- If you are getting black lines on your copies ONLY when you use the document feeder, ink or white out is most often the cause.
- Clean the original glass with a soft cloth and mild cleanser.
- Check for white out or black marks on the glass
More INFO
If you take a good look at your document feeder, they are two ways they feed:
1) You will see the scanner light going back and fourth under it when it's scanning the original document or...
2) The scanner light will stay in place and only the original document will move in and out of the document feeder
My guess is... you are behind door number 2...
If the paper moves while the scanner assembly stays stable, any markings on the glass (white out, pen marks, toner, even a jumbo dust particle) will cause a black line.
NOTE!
If you have this kind of feeder, you may see a slit of glass right next to the original glass about 3 inches by 12 inches, that is the glass you need to clean and check for spots.
NEXT!
Clean the Charge corona and the transfer corona (see cleaning the corona wires).
If that doesn't do it, call your service provider and place a service call.
